The Cove Macmillan Support Centre

Every day, 9 people in Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly hear the devastating news that they have cancer. That’s over 3,300 people every year. The ripples a cancer diagnosis can cause can affect families, friends and work colleagues.

With a huge increase in the numbers of people affected by cancer anticipated by 2030, thousands more local people may end up feeling lonely and isolated.

That’s why we are building The Cove Macmillan Support Centre in Cornwall, the first dedicated centre of its kind in the County.

The Cove has been designed with patients and their families in mind, with the simple goal of helping anyone affected by cancer to live their lives as well as possible.

Key areas of support within this new state of the art building will include:

*information about how to cope with cancer and its treatment

*a dedicated financial advice service

*complementary therapies

*a room especially for young people affected by cancer

The centre will open in mid-2016, and will help and support around 13,000 people every year -patients, their families and friends.

The centre will cost around £3 million to build and equip, and we are fundraising for the final £1 million of that figure in Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly.

We would love your community to become involved with fundraising for the centre, and this could be your local school, business, pub or social group.

Newly Co-opted Breage Parish Councillor

At the meeting on Tuesday 8 September 2015 Mrs Karen La Borde from Praa Sands was co-opted and welcomed to the Parish Council.

She replaces Ian Davis who resigned in June due to being unable to give the time needed because of family illness.

The Council’s thanks go to Ian for all he did whilst a member of the Council and to Mrs La Borde for applying for co-option.

In her application letter Mrs La Borde said that she would like to become involved with her Parish Council in order to protect the local community and environment where she lives.

She was certainly thrown in at the ‘deep end’ and became involved very quickly at the meeting as the Clerk had been taken poorly and the meeting was somewhat extraordinary. Back to normal next month!

Mrs La Borde is very much welcomed to the Parish Council.
