To be a local Councillor you must be at least 18 and a British Commonwealth or European Citizen. You also need to be a local elector or have lived, worked or owned a property in the parish for at least a year.
Why would I want to be a Councillor?
People stand for election for many reasons:

- To shape the future of their local community
Councillors play a vital role in shaping and directing the effectiveness of local services for the benefit of local people. They work with public, private and charitable bodies to improve their community.
The role of Councillor is vital in the local community. Your counsil is the voice and champion of the parish.
All Council seats are up for election once every four years. Now is the perfect time to consider standing for election to your local Council as all your Council’s 12 seats are up for election on 4th May.
How do I get elected?
The elections for local councillors will take place across the County on 4th May 2017.
If you are interested you should apply for a nomination pack from: The Electoral Services Office, Cornwall Council, Room 11, 39 Penwinnick Road, ST AUSTELL, PL25 5DR. Tel: 01579 341234.
The pack will be sent to you direct.
Completed papers must be returned by the appropriate Deputy Returning Officer as stated in the nomination pack by no later than 4.00 p.m. on 4 April 2017. There are set places, days and times to do this.

How do I find out more about the people who will be standing so that I can choose how I should vote?
You may contact the current Parish Councillors to see who will be applying to stand. Their details are under Councillors on the Breage Parish Council website breagepc.org.uk or contact the Clerk.
If other parishioners apply they will be listed on the notice board on 25th April.
